Magnifier #3: More
There is always greater value to be wrung out of a situation, question, decision, or problem. We often don’t see that because we don’t look for it. A powerful step in achieving superior results is to continuously look for ways to do so.
Look for MORE as a disciplined habit. Seek MORE in every step of the thinking project. |
“Good is not good enough. The best I can do” is an excuse. It’s a matter of looking for MORE, as a disciplined habit. And that means seeking more at every step of the thinking project.
Where to Use it
MORE can be used at the end of every step of every process.
Pros & Cons
On the plus side, by asking the MORE questions you will insure that every step has been competed to the maximum. The end result op the thinking project will be more robust, more accurate and more effective.
On the minus side, it takes time to apply MORE and you may not have that time. Your project may be one where in speed is more important than the breath of the result.
How to Use it
Look at every outcome from every step in the process and ask questions which emerge from the master question, “Can I derive more value from this?” and writing down the answers that bubble up.
- Can we derive more value from this?
- Is there a larger issue?
- Are there more components?
- Have we reached a deeper level of truth?
- Can we do this quicker?
- Can we accomplish more?
- Is there a greater purpose?
- Can we work towards a higher value?
MORE is powerful when it is combined with Multiple Voices as in a brainstorming session, for example. After we’ve compiled the list of good ideas, we can then ask the MORE questions and add to/edit the lists.
